Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, the types of cookies, and how I use them, how to manage your cookie settings.
This policy forms part of Atomic Education’s Privacy Policy.
What is a cookie
A “cookie” is a small text file that records specific pieces of information and stores it on your device. It can record how you move your way around a website so that, when you revisit that website, it can present tailored options based on the information stored about your last visit.
Cookies are used by nearly all websites to analyze traffic and for advertising and marketing purposes. They do not harm your system.
You can block cookies at any time by activating the setting on your browser that allows you to refuse the setting of all or some cookies. However, if you use your browser settings to block all cookies (including essential cookies) you may not be able to access all or parts of our site.
There are different types of cookies.
- Session cookies: these are only stored on your computer during your web session and are automatically deleted when you close your browser – they usually store an anonymous session ID allowing you to browse a website without having to log in to each page. They do not collect any personal data from your computer
- Persistent cookies: a persistent cookie is stored as a file on your computer and it remains there when you close your web browser. The cookie can be read by the website that created it when you visit that website again. I use persistent cookies for Google Analytics.
- Strictly necessary cookies: These cookies are essential to enable you to use the website effectively, such as when buying a product, and therefore cannot be turned off. Without these cookies, the services available to you on our website cannot be provided. These cookies do not gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you have been on the internet.
- Performance cookies: These cookies enable me to monitor and improve the performance of this website. For example, they allow me to count visits, identify traffic sources and see which parts of the site are most popular.
- Functionality cookies: These cookies give the website the ability to 'remember' choices you make and provide enhanced features. For instance, I may be able to provide you with news or updates relevant to the services you use. They may also be used to provide services you have requested such as viewing a video or commenting on a blog. The information these cookies collect is usually anonymised.
My cookie policy
Cookies help me make the website function properly, make it more secure, provide better user experience, and understand how the website performs and to analyze what works and where it needs improvement.
Site visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using the Site, with the drawback that certain features of the Site may not function properly without the aid of cookies.
If you have an account and you log in to this website, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
When you watch a video on the website, my video hosting provider, Vimeo, saves a cookie in your browser that supports video functionality like closed-captions and other preferences, saves your playback position, and tracks views.
Google Analytics gathers information allowing me to understand interactions with the website and ultimately refine that experience to make it better.
